Description

During the second half of the 1970s, extreme-right groups committed frequent violent criminal acts in Greece, and especially bomb attacks. Two of them took place in cinemas: on March 1978, a bomb exploded at the “Elli” cinema during the screening of the Soviet anti-Nazi film THE RAINBOW (Mark Donskoy, 1944), injuring 19 people. Three months later, another bombing took place at the ”Rex” cinema during the screening of another Soviet film, FRONT WITHOUT FLANKS, injuring 15 people. Ten people were arrested for these attacks, among of them Nikos Michaloliakos –soon to be the leader of the neo-Nazi party “Golden Dawn”. Michaloliakos was convicted to 13 months of incarceration in 1979 due to his illegal possession of explosives, which he had stolen from a military camp, but he was released a few months later.
