Description

In 1949, the distinguished expressionist painter George Bouzianis was about to open his first solo exhibition at Parnassos. The exhibition attracted the attention of a passing policeman, who was disturbed by the style of the works and thought it appropriate to inform his superiors so that an investigation could be carried out at the gallery. Bouzianis was called on to explain ‘what goals he sought to further’ with his works and, when he was unable to give satisfactory explanations, was surprised to hear that his exhibition ‘constituted a threat to public order and was not to be opening’. After the intervention of the Ministry of Education, and following a police investigation, the exhibition was staged as planned.
